Playing with a list again.

That's right I'm playing with an army list again guys! So point out issues you have with it and how I can improve it. Also in brackets how far along they are painting wise.

Captain Sumatris' 2nd Company 1500pts

HQ- Captain Sumatris (converted & primed)

Fast Attack- 9 Assault Marines, Plasma Pistol, Power Sword, Rhino (Base coated)

Troops- Tactical Squad 1. 10 Marines, Plasma Gun, Plasma Cannon, Power Fist, Rhino (Painted tabletop standard, needs wash and transfers)

Troops- Tactical Squad 2. 10 Marines, Plasma Gun, Plasma Cannon, Power Fist, Rhino (Painted tabletop standard, needs wash and transfers)

Elite- Venerable Dreadnought, Plasma Cannon, CCW (finished maybe a clean up)

Elite- Ironclad, Hurricane Bolters, CCW (transfers and a wash needed)

Heavy Support- Devastor Squad. 5 Marines, 4 Missile Launchers, Combi Plasma (Primed)

Heavy Support- Predator. TL Lascannon, Lascannon Sponsons.

Now my thoughts on this list.

Captain Sumatris rides with the Assault squad, giving them furious charge as well as the WS boost.
I think this set-up can handle the basic missions well? In kill points I only have 11 which I think is average. Whilst in objective games I can split the troops into 4 squads giving me options.
This list is actually close to being painted! With this being the case, I plan on getting it completed (to a table top standard), by April. This would mean I could start gaming with it soon (looking at you Di Studio). Then spend the second half of the year painting them up to a higher level (as well as starting my other projects I have planned).

Problem fixed guys! Evil Imperial agents had infiltrate the Palace of Thorns and released a virus that played around with the comment settings, blocking you out. Never fear Valthex has purged the system and the heretics have been caught and given a Tyrant backslap before being launched into the void.

So yeah sorry guys I thought it only blocked people who didn't follow the blog so whoops! If anyone knows how to set that up let me know.

Badab Characters 101: Fire Angels

Codicier Ignatius over at 4th Company Librarium has done it again with Badab Characters 101: Fire Angels.

The Fire Angels are a relatively young Chapter based on the Ultramarines geneseed. As such, they possess relatively small numbers of Terminator Armor, Land Raiders, or Dreadnoughts. However, they possess great numbers of vehicles based on the Rhino chassis, and prefer to operate as a heavily mechanized force. They hold discipline and duty above the pursuit of glory.

Captain Tarnus Vale

Tarnus Vale is the Captain of the Fire Angels 3^rd Company, and I think he’s one of the best characters in the book. He has a standard Captain’s statline, and carries only a chainsword, plasma pistol, and meltabombs. He makes any squad he joins Stubborn. All of this is really unimpressive compared to his point cost.

It is his Chapter Tactic that makes Vale a good character. He gives any squad with Combat Tactics the Tank Hunter special rule. This rule is becoming increasingly rare, but is very useful, especially in our heavily mechanized game. In addition, any Rhino or Razorback bought for a squad with Tank Hunter gets a free set of Extra Armor. This is a generally expensive upgrade that often isn’t worth paying for, but it is certainly worth it for free. Finally, if Vale rides in a Tank, he passes his Tank Hunter onto the vehicle.

Overall, I think Space Marines work best with a heavily mechanized force, and Tarnus Vale just makes them better. In addition, he improves Space Marine infantry’s anti-armor shooting. This is a great help to Tactical squads, and make Devastators really worth taking.

Having only paid attention to the Astral Claws (as their my favorite in case you didn't know). So this is giving me a nice easy to digest 101.

Badab Characters 101: The Marines Errant

Hot from the mind of Codicier Ignatius over at 4th Company Librarium comes Badab Characters 101: The Marines Errant.

Background

The Marines Errant are a crusading, fleet-based chapter based on the Ultramarines gene-seed. They operate as a pretty standard Codex chapter, but are short on rarer wargear, such as Dreadnoughts, Land Raiders, and Terminator armor. As such, they play pretty much like any Codex Marine Chapter. They fought for the Loyalists during the Badab War and behaved honorably. They are particularly well-known for their enmity toward the Mantis Warriors and their role in protecting Imperial shipping.

Lieutenant Commander Anton Narvaez

The Marines Errant character is a Company Captain, though he has a pretty poor statline, roughly between a Librarian and a standard Captain. He comes with a power weapon and master-crafted plasma gun, as well as an over-charged Iron Halo that gives him a 3+ invulnerable save but can short out when he takes a wound. He maintains Combat Tactics, and gives himself and one Tactical squad both Move through Cover and Scout. Both are handy abilities, but hardly game changing.

Narvaez is a cheap choice, barely more expensive than a standard Captain with a power weapon and combi-plasma. He adds some flexibility to a Tactical squad, but doesn’t change the army very much. He’s more of a choice for a fluffy Marines Errant list than one to alter your game play.

Badab Characters 101: 'Astral Claws'.

I'm excited to introduce a new section to the blog along with a guest writer.......Codicier Ignatius. Codicier Ignatius is along time supporter of the Badab Veterans and is collecting a steadly growing Executioners force, all of which can be found on his excellent blog 'Fourth Company Librarium'.

Now over to oracle of knowledge himself.

"I was reading over the Badab War Imperial Armour books, and thinking about how much they expand on the Space Marine Codex. When it comes down to it, much of the flexibility in C:SM is due to characters that alter the FOC or have the Chapter Tactics rule. IA: 9 and 10 don’t really add any new units, but they add 22 new characters, many of which fundamentally alter the way that C:SM plays.

The problem with this is that the books are expensive and not readily available to most gamers, so they may not even be aware of the characters or if they would like to play them. I decided to do a short write-up for each character, describing how their rules alter the army. I’ll be organizing them by chapter, so I’ll also include some information about the chapter’s background and how a fluffy army for them would be built. I decided to start with the instigators of the whole war:"

The Astral Claws/ Tiger Claws

The Astral Claws are the main antagonists of the Badab War. Initially a loyal chapter stretched beyond its resources in an attempt to defend the Maelstrom Zone, the Astral Claws began violating Imperial Law to get the resources they needed. The Astral Claws are a proud and unbending chapter. A force based on them should be centered around overwhelming firepower, designed to blast the enemy off the table. In addition, the Astral Claws generally prefer to field a large number of bodies rather than more elite units.

The Tiger Claws are a successor to the Astral Claws. They were reduced below operational strength and eventually reincorporated back into the Astral Claws. The Tiger Claws have a similar temperament but are more aggressive than the Astral Claws.

Lugft Huron

Lugft Huron is the Chapter Master of the Astral Claws. He comes with the standard Chapter Master statline, terminator armor, heavy flamer, and a lightning claw that forces the enemy to re-roll successful invulnerable saves. He maintains standard Combat Tactics.

Huron does have a few special rules that help out the army that he leads. He passes his LD 10 to any Space Marines in his army, as well as allied marines in team games. He also allows you to re-roll failed attempts to steal the initiative, which can be very useful if you take the amount of heavy firepower appropriate to the Astral Claws. He also fires two blasts when he uses Orbital Bombardment, making the attack much more reliable. Finally, he is returned to play with one wound on a 2+ the first time he is killed, making him pretty hard to remove from the table. He needs to stay still for at least a turn to use his orbital bombardment, but he’s a pretty capable assaulter. I think he’s best used as a counter-charge character, perhaps leading a small squad of Assault Terminators.

Captain Corien Sumatris

Sumatris is the Captain of the Astral Claws 2^nd Company, but is in reality a Tiger Claw reinstated into the Chapter. He has the standard Captain statline, with one extra point of WS and one less point of BS. He’s a capable character in assault, with a storm shield, digital weapons, and a master-crafted power sword. He also has what amounts to an Assault 2 bolt pistol that doesn’t take up a hand.

In addition, Sumatris gets two extra attacks when he charges rather than one. Sumatris also makes any units around him much more capable in assault. He and any squad he joins have Furious Charge, and any infantry unit (but not IC’s) within 12” of him gain an extra point of WS. As such, he can provide a strong core of assault units to a standard Space Marine force. For example, WS 5, furious charging Assault Terminators with lightning claws would make for a terrifying assault unit.

Armenneus Valtrex

Valtrex is the Astral Claws’ Master of the Forge and has the standard statline as well as the standard rules. He’s got a conversion beamer to add some firepower to the army. He’s got a bit of a whacky servo-harness, which counts as giving him two power weapons,Counter-attack, a 5+ invulnerable save, and the ability to re-roll failed repair rolls.

His big contribution to the army is granting one infantry squad Hellfire rounds for their bolt pistols, bolters, and storm bolters at no cost. This is generally the most useful of the Sternguard ammunitions, and the ability to give it to storm bolters is tremendous.

In general, Valtrex fulfills the same role as a Master of the Forge, giving you a bit of extra firepower and the ability to take Dreadnoughts as Heavy Support. He’s got a bit more assault presence than a standard Master of the Forge, and he greatly increases the shooting ability of one of your shooting units.

Arch-Centurion Carnac Commodus

Carnac Commodus is an Astral Claws character, with rules found here. Specifically, he was the commander of the Astral Claw forces that boarded the Salamander battle bargePyre of Glory. This ended in the incident known as the Red Hour, when the Executioners turned on the Secessionists and butchered the Astral Claws.

Commodus can be taken in either a Space Marine army or a Tyrant’s Legion army. He’s quite cheap, but has a fairly weak statline (essentially a Librarian with 1 more attack and 1 less leadership). He carries a bolt pistol and S5 rending chainsword, and has an Iron Halo. All in all, he’s not particularly dangerous in any context, but he’s a cheap HQ.

He also has the special rule Cut Them Down! This allows him and any squad he joins to re-roll their Sweeping Advance rolls, and add +1 to the number of wounds inflicted by No Retreat! These are handy abilities when combined with a strong assault squad, but doesn’t have a huge effect on a list.

Followers and 2nd Edition

As I write this I have 196 followers, 600 published comments, 275 posts (including this) and 115,934 views! This is crazy amazing considering when I started this way back in August 2009, I thought I would be doing well to get 20ish followers. This blog has come along way since my days in Canada. From fluff heavy Eldar and my attempts at a painted force. To now living in London slowly getting a painted Badab force. The blog is also home to the hugely popular Badab Bloggers, the Eldar Dictionary and an irregular painting competition. But none of these would of worked without the support of you guys and for that I say:

Now to the important bit once the blog hits the big '200' followers mark I will offer a free prize out so keep an eye open for that to happen.

You may have noticed the title and the 2nd Edition part. As regular followers know I have been searching ebay for Warhammer 2nd edition goodies. And I am now the proud owner of 2nd Edition Warhammer 40k and even better it's never been used! I'm very excited for this but I'm now stuck with the hard choice of to leave it as is or use it. I'm tempted to use it and paint the tactical squads as Astral Claws and build the ruins for scenery? What are your thoughts?

I've just finished painting Huron to a happy level :) And yes pictures will get took! But it got me to thinking about his role in the army and I need your assistance guys so if you can help me leave a comment. Here is my questions:

1) What is Huron's role in the army in your opinion, is he an in your face character or more of a support character?

2) What unit does Huron support best?? Does he go well with Assault Terminators or Tactical Terminators or neither? What unit would you put him with and how would you equip them?

The answers I get will affect yesterdays list post, so I'm willing to buy him a new unit!

Following on from this post I have been looking at my figure collection and working out some marine lists. And with the minimum amount of extras being bought, I can build a 2500pts army of Astral Claws and a 1000pt force of Mantis Warriors. All I would need to buy is a whirlwind, a rhino and 4 scouts which doesn't seem that bad to me?

Now before we move onto the lists please note a few things:

1) Lists were made to help me work towards a goal and to actually paint some guys.

2) I rarely play games these days so the lists aren't for tournament play.

So we are now in January and I feel it's time to get organized! So to help this along here is my to do list:

1) Finish painting 2000 pts of Astral Claws.

This should be easy with Huron, termies and an Assault Craft.

2) Complete 1000 pts of Mantis Warriors.

To ally with my Claws to make an apoc size force.

Bonus points will follow for the following:

3) Complete 1000 pts of Lamenters

4) Complete 1000pts of Executioners.

5) Paint some Eldar.

6) Post more often, even if it's just random thoughts from my dusty mind.

7) Get the painting comp going again, maybe a group project *

Well it's another week gone and the cold winter nights are taking hold here in London :( Once again I have moved flats as the last one was full off Black mold and damp, but now in the new flat and almost settled. Planning on buying a computer desk and bookcase and setting up shop next to the large window in the living room and having a nerd corner all to myself :) So hopefully get some pictures of that in the near future.

With Xmas fast approaching I'm attempting to think up a competition for you guys enter. It would properly end in the new year and hopefully give you all a chance to enter.

Necrons Rising

So I've been bitten by the new toys bug and bought the new necron codex to read on the tube. And I have to say I really enjoyed reading it. The Background is more fleshed out and fitting (even tho they are Tomb Kings in space). Also the Fluff involving my favorite craftworld Alaitoc intrigued me, how they have kept watch over the dormant tombworlds and seeded those planets with exodites and outcasts.

But this paragraph about the Oroshk Dynasty really caught my eye:

The Oroskh Dynasty is a Necron Dynasty which has been infected by the flayer virus- the result of a deliberate contamination by the Eldar Alaitoc Craftworld. Slowly, the population of Oroskh Tomb Worlds shrinks further as more Necrons devolve into Flayed Ones.

My favorite meddling xenos have been up to no good and are undermining this Dynasty. This got me thinking of my old dusty Eldar and how it's soon hopefully their time for a new codex? But wait....wouldn't it be better if they had a foe to battle once I start redoing them?

Well of course the answer is yes! So here is my Oroshk Dynasty army list.

I think this is a fun looking list not a huge model count either. But would be fun to build. So here is some questions:

1) What colour are the Oroshk I've looked everywhere in the codex and can't find them/

3) What weapons on the Immortals Tesla or Gauss? I'm thinking 2 Squads of Gauss and 1Telsa.

MkIc Deimos Pattern Rhino
The ubiquitous Rhino Armoured Personnel Carrier is a mainstay of the Space Marine Chapters, and has been in continuous use for over ten thousand years. Its true origins are more distant still, and ancient records mention the RH1-N-0 Tracked Exploration and Multi-purpose Defence Vehicle accompanying explorator missions during Mankind’s Golden Age. Later, as the armies of the Imperium marched across the galaxy, the Rhino was re-armed and re-purposed for military use, and remains a mainstay of its might to this day.
There are many patterns and designs of this robust vehicle, and the MkIc Deimos Pattern Rhino is amongst one of the oldest variants, first issued en-masse to the Space Marine Legions of the Great Crusade. This pattern is armed with two turret-mounted bolters, slaved to the target-logis systems of the Rhino’s machine spirit, rather than the pintle-mounted storm bolter seen on the later MkIIc design that was more readily adopted after the Horus Heresy.

Minotaurs Land Raider and Rhino Door Sets
A mysterious and darkly famed Chapter, the Minotaurs played a major part in the prosecution of the Badab War. Adding their full strength to the Loyalist cause, they were most lauded for their brutal and unrelenting near-destruction of the Secessionist Lamenters during the Battle of Optera.

Designed by Simon Egan, this set of detailed Minotaurs Land Raider Doors and Minotaurs Rhino Doors will be despatched in the week commencing 28th November. Both of these accessory kits are compatible with the full range of Space Marine vehicles available both from Forge World and Games Workshop, except for the MkIc Deimos Pattern Rhino which they are not compatible with.

Exciting news Bitz Box fixed their website problems (so links will start appearing again). But not only that Craig is running a comp. Here is the email I received:

Heroes and Villians

So we first mentioned it a couple of months back and finally the time has come. We are running a painting and converting competition for you to showcase your character models. We are looking for HQ, Lords, Heroes or even just squad leaders and champions. There are three categories, Fantasy, 40k and Open which may include LotR minis, and characters from other game systems. Prizes will be awarded for the best painted models, best converted models and just our favourites in general. You may enter one model in each category if you wish.

All entries will also be showcased on our website. If you have a blog or website you wish to promote we can link to that with your entry also! As for prizes there will be the usual small prizes of Bitzbox dice, bargains bags but for main prizes we are giving away Forgeworld or GW products of your choice. The value of these will depend on how many entries we get so the more people who enter the bigger the prize fund will be.

I haven't done this before so here goes. I want you guys to help me with a squad for my Astral Claws. I'm re-doing the command squad (planing on using forgeworld goodies) and changing it up. So what I need is for you to come up with the squad format. How should they be armed? To help you come up with ideas here are some personal thoughts.

- Must be in a Razorback (but load out up to you).

- Would like them to be an all rounder unit.

- I love plasma weapons.

- They don't need to be all powerful (important point) I prefer fluffy to power.

- Some background info: Command Squad 'Guardians of the Gate' consists of Centurion Hartmann, Centurion Prien, Centurion Galland (banner bearer), Company Champion Rommel and Corpse Taker Otmar (apothecary) and from 5th Company.

- Fluff welcomed.

The best suggestions will be sent a thank you gift. And the format I feel fits best will be the setup for the squad. Thanks for reading and I look forward to reading your ideas.

Now for a bit of filler :) I'm currently reading Prospero Burns by Dan Abnett and I'm struggling.

Normally I love reading Abnett's work as I love his style and descriptive writing. But this book just isn't working for me. How have you guys found it, I love to know? (please no spoilers).

The other mini filler is that with 6 votes: 'HQ' has won out for the next comp. So have a think what you'd like to paint and I will work on getting it set-up and started. As always it doesn't have to be 40k or even GW it just has to fit within the idea of a 'HQ'.

Just a quick little post to say I'm adding a poll to the left to find out what you guys would like the next comp to be about. The options I'm thinking about are:

Vehicle ( or Monster if you prefer warhammer/tyranids) of any type/army/brand.

HQ/Lord/Hero/Warcaster choice from any army/brand.

So be sure to vote I will let it run for a week and then tell you the results with the launch of the comp.

Second point for today just finished reading The First Heretic by Aaron Dembski-Bowden.

From Black Library:

Amidst the galaxy-wide war of the Great Crusade, the Emperor castigates the Word Bearers for their worship. Distraught at this judgement, Lorgar and his Legion seek another path while devastating world after world, venting their fury and fervour on the battlefield. And all I can say is AMAZING!!!!!!! Could not stop reading this book and it is properly the fastest I've ever read book. It kept me total engaged the whole way through. I found the characters interesting and well portrayed and it filled in quite a few blanks for me.

Overall I would give it a 5 out of 5!

There was two downsides to the book though....1) I want to do Word Bearers and 2) Really want to what happen to the two removed chapters (they talk about one in the book but I won't disclose anything).

Just a little wip post to prove work is continuing on my Astral Claws. So without delay here are the pictures:

So here is the current 5 man Squad. They will joined by a second squad of 5 more terminators in the near future once I've bought more shoulder pads. The other Squad will consist of 1x Lighting Claws and 4x Thunder Hammer and Storm Shields.

Now whilst your looking at the pictures please tell if and where you see mold lines, as I'm going to make a real effort to up my painting and modeling game :)

The guy with the Scythe is my Sgt. (Who still needs a name so comment below) and it counts as a Thunder Hammer. He will have a Banner once completed, the same one as Huron has :)

Then finally this is my favorite posed termie of the lot as he has a real menacing pose I think.

So what do you think of the Squad? Do you like the helmet choices?

The ultimate plan would be to field them as bodyguards for Huron and whilst in their transport ram them down the throats of the Emperors lap dogs :)

So I've finally took the plunge and I'm starting to clear out some of my old figures on ebay. So the plan is to make a selling gadget on the side to link all my figures for sale. I will update it every time I start to sell something so be sure to keep checking back to see whats up!

Resin Crack Addiction.

That's right I have gone resin crack crazy! I haven't even finished building the first load of figures from Forgeworld and I'm already eyeing up the next purchases.

For those of you who read the blog will know this is purely a wish list for now but let me know what you think of my choices. Now for the list.

Choice 1

Up first a real no brainer purchase for me. The Alchemancer, Armenneus Valthex the true power behind the throne. Ever since reading his rules I've wanted to an Astral Claws force let by this mad man!

Now alot of blogs/forums have been slagging this model off for either being too static (what did you expect he has a massive cannon on his shoulder!) or for looking to much like Whiplash (which I don't see as being a bad thing we all take inspiration from somewhere).

Well neither of those points bother me in the slightest :) I want this model in my force giving me a nice army upgrade of a hellfire shooting squad, a reinforced ruin (to hide in lol), Dreadnoughts everywhere and a conversion beamer. Downside I need to re-invest my count as model as something else now. I'm thinking maybe time to build a thunder-cannon??

Choice 2

Now this second choice I'm not sure on, the reason I'm not sure is that I honestly believe I could make these for a lot less than their asking prize. But I do like them so they're staying on the list for now.......

Choice 3

A Contemptor Dread still haven't worked out what set-up let. I'm a fan-boy of Plasma Cannons, but I also have an idea of converting one to look like Valthex. Imagine something along the lines of Victor Frankenstein and his monster, holed up in a fortified ruin blowing up tanks left, right and centre (just a idea).

Choice 4

Final Choice for today is MKV Assault Marines.

Now to be honest this mark of armour is turning out to be a firm favourite of mine and if funds were not an issue every marine in my army would be based of these guys.

So there you have it, my next 4 choices from Forgeworld. What do you think of my choices? Any thoughts or suggestions. Also would like to hear what you think on Valthex a hit or a miss? Vote in the polls to the side.

Okay so carrying on from the other post this week, comes my first attempt at a Tier 2 Stryker List! Reason for him is because I own him and quite like the model (which is always important). Now hopefully if my maths is right it comes to 24pts (yay!). Whilst tactic wise the two mechaniks allow Ol' Rowdy and the Ironclad a free advance move, and Ol' Rowdy gives me +1 to get first turn (which I can only assume is a good thing?). Now I need help from you guys, I would like advice on list building; is this a good starting list or not and what would you add to take it up to the next point level?

Side note: I've mainly chosen figures I like and would like to paint that also fit the Stryker list, whilst the low model count makes me think it would help me learn the rules fast.

Just picked up the rulebook, Cygnar Faction Book and the starter boxset.

What can I say the figures are gorgeous and just so tempting to painting up. The big problem though is that I haven't a clue what is going on or what is even good or bad? So expect me asking for a lot of help on here :) What I do know is this:

I want an Ol' Rowdy 'Jack, a Cyclone 'Jack and at least 1 Field Mechanik (Love these models).

Now never fear this is a side project to the Astral Claws not a replacement. Nearly all my Claws and Mantis Warriors now have primer on them and hopefully you'll start seeing results soon. The plan is to try and finish a model a day starting this Sunday (stealing the idea from Sippin' on Paint Water). And first up is to complete my Mantis Warriors Scout squad and Landspeeder storm.

So that's it for now. A new flat, a new town, a new job and a fresh blogging start :)

The reason for my lack of posting is because I'm slowly moving into my new flat so I'm living between two cities. The first city is Birmingham and the second is London, for those who don't know or haven't seen the news here is what has been happening there:

Fluff and possible rules for Reds Comp

For those who still haven't heard or seen Red is holding a great competition on blog. Go have a read of the rules here.

So here is the entry I'm currently working on. What I need from you guys is ways to improve his fluff or assistance with point costs/rules.

Master Kos 'Watcher of Purity'

Polybus Kos was inducted into the Red Scorpions shortly after his birth to a feudal warlord, from a backwater frontier world in the Ordon Rift. During his time in the 10th Company, it soon came to the attention of his tutors that Kos had a natural affinity as a battlefield medic. Upon his completion of his training, Kos was accepted into the Apothecarion. Here Kos quickly became an experienced field medic and was always to be found in the thickest of the fighting aiding his brothers on.

But it wasn't long before Kos was promoted into the 1st Company to aid the Veterans during the Siege of Vraks campaign. Kos' time in this company was a bloody affair and a time of heroes and villains. Kos himself was honoured to fight along side heroes such as Cullen and Aiastes during this time. But this was also a time of great sadness, as many Battle Brothers fell to the afflictions of Nurgles curse and it was up to Kos to issue the final absolution to many of his brothers.

After the Siege of Vraks, Kos had changed into an uncompromising purist, despising all abnormalities of the flesh, but especially the works of Nurgle. Kos' new found skills had not gone unnoticed and the Master of the Apothecarion granted him a new title and rank 'Watcher of Purity'. Upon receiving this title, Kos' once white armour is now painted black like that of the Chaplains, and has become a piece of art designed by the Artificers of the chapter. Now seen more as an Angel of Death than life, Kos works alone away from his brothers. Only taking to the battlefield when needed most or when the purity of his brothers is in peril.

So this post is all about the future of my Astral Claws and where I want them to go.

So here is the big plan:

1) A complete Battle Company based around the 5th Company using the Apocalypse datasheet.

2) At least one of each option from the codex and the Badab forgeworld books.

3) A Support battalion of Militia forming the supporting Tyrant Legion 121st.

4) Small playable forces of the other Wardens (Mantis, Lamenters and Executioners), think 1000 to 1500 pts each.

So as you can see this is a huge under taking which means this blog should stay busy for a while :) Now lets take a more in depth look at the datasheet for a battle company. The units needed are as follows:

1 Captain (Got and painted)

0-1 Chaplain (Need to get one)

1 Command Squad (Got and painted)

6 ten-man Tactical Squads (Got 2 so far painted)

2 ten-man Assault Squads (got 1 on foot built)

2 ten-man Devastator Squads (haven't begun let)

What does this all mean? Well it means in total I still need to buy over 70 marines lol, and rhinos for each squad! (hahaha this was more than what I was expecting for some reason). But hey I wanted a battle company!

Finally made my Forgeworld order!

After weeks of trying to decide what to order from Forgeworld, I finally managed to complete an order and pay for it. So here's what I'm getting soon.

1x Transfer Sheet of Astral Claws symbols. Finally can finish all the shoulder pads.

2x Rhino hatches and doors. These are for the next items I bought.

2x Rhinos, because I need them and it made sense to stick them on the order.

2x Land Raider hatches, for upcoming landraiders.

1x Caestus Assault Ram, just cos I wanted one.

1x Terminator Shoulder pads, for my soon to be bought assault terminators.

1x Marine Shoulder Pads, for me sternguards.

1x Huron, because it's time that I owned one.

1x Maximus Armour combat squad 1 of the sternguard.

1x Heresy Armour combat squad 2 of the sternguard.

I'm looking forward to getting these! I'm thinking of starting on the rhinos to round out current army, as they are lacking transports completely. Then maybe the Assault ram followed by the Sternguard. So expect an un-boxing soon and loads of blog updates, good times ahead :)

Finally some Astral Claws updates!

So not sure how I managed it but guess what!! I completed a model for once, yes that's right I managed to sit down and complete a couple of figures up to table top standard. Now to the figures themselves.

First up Chief Librarian Luthor of the Astral Claws.

I'm attempting to write fluff for him and get some better pictures up, so expect that in the near future.

I see him as a record keeper and the 'Book of Brotherhood', strapped to his banner pole contains all the pacts formed by the Wardens.

This was a finecast miniature and I was absolutely amazed by the quality and will be spending much more on this new range.

The second model I managed to get to table top quality, was my Astral Claws count as Captain Sicarius. I really enjoyed converting this model up and can't wait to start on my version of Commodus to lead my Tyrant Legion army.

The face still needs a lot of work.

Just like the Librarian before this guy, he will get his own blog post with fluff. As well as getting highlighted.

Now onto my entry to the Squad competition:

This will hopefully be the first of two entries, the other being a Sternguard squad. So what's the entry?

A Prefect command Squad to help lead the glorious 121st Badab Prime Militia force also known as 'The Tyrant's Own'.

Prefect Valan, and Meltagun Specialist.

Standard awarded to the 121st by Huron (Expect some freehand).

Bodyguard and Flamer Specialist.

Group shot! Arranged nicely for a blast template.

For the paint scheme I'm thinking grey for the cloth and blue for the body armour, also thinking of green stuffing some fur lining on them also to make them look more pompous :) Still to be added to the squad is a heavy weapons team (either a mortar or autocannon?) and then work can begin on their transport.

So I think it's now time for some forgeworld goodies to be bought. I'm loving the current range of figures they are bringing out. So do I make a small order or go out and try to reach the £250 free postage mark?

Here's what I'm looking at and why:

Much needed transfer to complete my line troopers.

These would be used on the ram transport below, maybe get two sets of these and get a landraider for my terminators?

In a dream world I would get 5 of these to complete all the transports for a battle company.

Got to have these for the next up coming terminator assault squad that I want to build.

Sternguard Squad!!!

Need a second Assault Squad for my battle company.

The Man himself needs to be bought.

Just like this model so enough said lol.

So if I bought one of each of the above it would cost me £220.40, so I'd be close to free packaging! Hmmm time to check the bank account I think. Sorry for a pretty pointless post but I thought I share my thoughts. Feel free to do the same.
