In need of help.

I need you guys to help me out. Which way should I build my army to be legal in games? Should the main force be the Tyrant Legion with Marines as the allies force or vice versa? Now even if I was to play against some one who doesn't like forgeworld armies I would still have a legal army but I wanted to know your thoughts. Drop a comment below and help me out.

Also some more second hand goodies have just arrived in the store so come and have a look.

  1. Could you write it as an IG with space marine allies in it?

What is in your list? What do you want to play with?

    1. Well as far tyrant legion goes I want to use the forgeworld rules for them. But do I make them the main army or the allied contingent?

  2. I'd be inclined to go with the Guard with Space Marine Allies. The way i saw the Tyrant's legion was a large number of guard 'supervised' by a contingent of Marines. Besides, weren't the guard only ever meant to be a meat shields anyway ;-)?

    1. As above I really want to use the forgeworld rules so I can get the special rules and units in.

  3. Depends on what you want to use more of. If you want to use two TL hqs, or more than one TL elite/fast/heavy or more than two TL troops, make them the base. And since TL can sort of take SM "allies" that aren't allies anyways, probably an easier decision.

What would you get that you want from taking SM as the primary that you couldn't get with them as allies? If the answer is nothing, you've got the answer to your question!

    1. I like your reply.
It's helped me get to an answer.Tyrants Legion is now the Primary with Marines as the allies. That's exactly what I need to read :) Nice, simple, blunt questions that give me an answer thank you Sons of Taurus!

  4. I had to ask myself the same question when I started building my Eldar Corsair list. I wanted to use the FW Corsair list along with some allied Dark Eldar (to represent Exodites). What it boiled down to was that I needed two Dark Eldar HQs to build the army the way I wanted, while there wasn't much in the FW Corsair list that 'I had to have'. So in reality the army list construction is Dark Eldar with Corsair allies, however I just call the whole thing an "Eldar Corsair list".

If you haven't seen the FW Corsair list in the Doom of Mymeara book it is pretty cool. Kinda like the Tyrants Legion list they can draw some units from the Dark Eldar and CW Eldar codex; giving them lots of fun options (especially as an ally). NTM their Harlequin units can take Venom transports!!!

    1. True daKing, it does all come down to what I want. At the moment I think I want Tyrant's Legion as the main focus. But with enough choices to field a normal Marine list if needs be.
Sadly haven't seen or read the Doom of Mymeara but this will be rectified after Games Day :)

  5. I'm currently using Guard, with Space wolf allies, before you cry cheese I'll explain.

One excellent thing about using wolves is you can have 2 Independent characters (can have 2 HQ per slot) spread without your army acting as Centurions within guard blobs (also give a wolf priest hunter Saga, you have a stealthy fearless LD10 blob of guardsman). I also find that the grey hunters represent the best form of Astral Claws, their great for bolstering a line of guardsman, but if they're charged, they launch ferociously toward the attackers. Another good thing I was thinking is you could use Blood Claws to represent the under trained additions to the Astral Claws due to the increased recruitment rate. Only downside is BS3 WS3 bikers, but I would remedy that by using TW Cav rules (also I'm running true scale marines so maybe not as good for non-truescale) as massive marine bikes, they move fast and are quite survivable.

Most of the other options are very marine generic, I'm also looking into getting some cyber mastiffs for use as Fen wolf wargear.

As for using the guard half, they're quite easy comparisons. Inf platoons are your Auxilia squads, Vets are your Naval Armsen Cadres. You can use storm-troopers or ogryns to represent Maruaders. Company HQ is Auxilia Command and just fill out HS with artillery as "the big guns never tire"
